Textbook Choices for German 1 and German 2

You should choose only ONE of the following options. The most important thing is that you MUST purchase the 'online access' to the Connect Website, which comes bundled in several different forms, depending on whether you want a paper textbook to use offline or not, and how long you want your access to be valid for. 1) Cheapest option: Once class begins, purchase the ONLINE ACCESS ONLY for approximately $150 directly from the publisher. This access will be valid for 24 months (2 years), and includes the e-Book online (an electronic version of the textbook) as well as access to the Connect website, which is required for homework, tests, and activities. It's easiest to purchase online on the first day of class, as part of your first week's assignments: see the "Week 1" page on our course webpage for instructions. If you have the funds early and want to purchase the code from the publisher in advance, you can do so at this link. 1a) When purchasing from the publisher above, you may choose to buy a paper textbook for an additional $50, which the publisher will ship to your home. The paper textbook is NOT required, but some students prefer to read on paper rather than online in the e-Book. You MUST have the online access to complete the course; the paper textbook is optional. 2) Campus Bookstore: From the Saddleback Bookstore, purchase the ONLINE ACCESS CARD for the Connect website for around $220. The bookstore has a markup for profit, but it is the same material as option #1, valid for 24 months (2 years), and includes the e-Book online (an electronic version of the textbook) as well as access to the Connect website, which is required for homework, test, and activities. Visit the Saddleback Bookstore on campus or use the Class Schedule link for further information. 3) FREE TRIAL: The publisher offers a 14-day free trial, which is perfectly fine to START the class. Please realize that after 14 days, you will HAVE to purchase the online access ($150) to continue in the course. You cannot continue or pass the class without buying the online access. You should start your access on the first day of the new semester, so that you do not miss out on any assignments or tests; after 14 days, you can convert to the paid account by entering a credit card online.

German 2 students please note:

If you purchased and activated your Connect access code last semester, it is still valid, and you won't have to purchase any new materials. You will have to 'enroll' in the new section of the Connect class using the URL your instructor will provide to you at the beginning of the new semester, so that you will see the new exercises and tests for the second semester course, but there is no cost, simply clicking to re-enroll. Your access code is valid for 24 months. You can check the expiration date by logging into Connect at http://connect.mheducation.com/connect/login/index.htm and clicking on "My Account". If your access has expired due to a gap in your German coursework, then you will have to purchase new access again (around $150 for another 24 months).
